Figure 4 Toe Hold

The toe hold is actually a foot or ankle lock. This technique is a great counter to many leg locks and can be attacked from many different angles. Here, the awesome models demonstrate this technique in a basic application.

  • Step 1
  • June starts in Kim's open guard.
  • Step 2
  • June steps up with her left leg as she leans forward and traps Kim's lower leg to her left side.
  • Step 3
  • June reaches back with her left hand and grabs the right foot of Kim (*June's grip is the with the thumb under Kim's toe knuckle and four fingers on the opposite side). June pushes Kim's leg downward against her left thigh. June can help adjust the angle of the leg by grabbing Kim's right knee with her right hand and pulling Kim's leg to June's right.
  • Step 4
  • June turns slightly to her left and reaches her right arm under Kim's right calf. June then grips her own left wrist.
  • Step 5
  • June finishes this submission by twisting to her right, forcing Kim to belly down. Once Kim is face down, June pushes down with her left hand as she pulls her right elbow upward. To create more pressure, June drops her left shoulder downward with the toe-hold.

you should have these lovely ladies redo this but when June steps that left leg up have her pin the hip by pushing in close with the leg pointing towards kims left shoulder... its really tight and that breaks a loose closed guard as well... if its tight you can do that and then just use your right hand to push their left leg down.. Tony Checcine taught me that
