Front Choke - Arm in variation

Here's a variation of the standard front choke or guillotine. In this technique we'll keep an arm trapped as well as the head.

  • Step 1
  • Eddie and Paul square off
  • Step 2
  • As Paul shoots low, Eddie begins to sprawl as his right hand slides under Paul's neck and reaches under Paul's right armpit.
  • Step 3
  • (other side view) Eddie finishes his sprawl as he grabs his left bicep with his right hand. Eddie's left hand reaches high up on Paul's back.
  • Step 4
  • Squeezing his right arm in to Paul's neck, Eddie walks forward to his feet. Eddie makes sure that Paul's right arm is inside his left thigh.
  • Step 5
  • Eddie sits into Paul locking both of his feet around the back of Paul's knees.
  • Step 6
  • To create more leverage, Eddie falls to his side squeezes his arms tight and arches his upper body backwards to finish the choke.

Eddie has an evil face in step 6!

i was just happy that i was finally choking someone. i get choked all day!

Nice, gotta try this out on Tuesday. Wink This seems to be a good thing to punish your opponent with if he trys a lousy shot. Just to be clear, you normally don't want your right leg to be in that position in step 2, right?

"If the path is set in stone, use a sledge-hammer."

well its supposed to be off a sprawl. in the photo its a lousy sprawl. its the same idea as the nog(anaconda/gator roll) choke except you dont roll you jump straight into it.

that one looks pretty good. It's not one i've seen before. Has anybody else ever been taught this? Or is it an original creation?

im sure its been done before, but i was teaching an mma class on following up after a sprawl, and i did it once and liked it so i taught it to my students. it seems to work pretty well, ive had a fair ammount of success with it

I can think of a variation that may work as well. For guys like me it may work even better. It's related to the grip used. I find that unless you have long arms, or a lean body that type of head/arm hold is difficult. For example Nog can lock in that hold very easily. Randy had a hard time getting a solid lock with his hand on his arm. Anyway, sometimes i use a grip where you would put say your left hand just above and behind the back of the guys right arm for example. Then you grab with your right hand the wrist of the left hand, closer to the hand, not by the elbow. If you have big arms, or a stocky build you will know what i mean about having difficulty with getting the grip shown in the demo. I'd be interested to know what the author thinks of using this type of alternate grip with this move. it seems like it may even make it tighter.

interesting.

For me, this grip is not tighter, but if it works for you than go for it!!!!

by the way, in the grip i suggested above, once it's on you need to do a couple of things to make it tight. Bring elbows in, and contract your chest, almost like in a RNC. And bring his head/upper back into your chest area.

Chaz, this is similar to one you taught recently at the your club. I've had a few chances to attempted it, and everytime I feel as if my opponent is able to "muscle" out of it. Hasn't worked for me yet put I'm probably doing something wrong and I'm sure I'll try it again.

I'm going to try this out

do i lose some pts by not making the evil look..?? or the technique dznt work..?? =p
