Golden Arm Sweep
![]() |
The Golden Arm sweep is a technique that I developed while drilling from the half guard at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu.
Eddie Bravo had us starting from the Lockdown and he gave us double underhooks. The bottom guy was going for the sweep to get top position or go to full guard. The top guy was working to pass the guard or get a submission.
Once I whipped up to my side I was looking for Old School, the Electric Chair or the Twist Back. What I saw was his hand posted on the mat so instead of going for his foot I grabbed his wrist instead and pulled it into his body. This took his base away real fast.
Next I got two on one control with the arm that was over his back. Now I had his arm totally trapped with his leg in the Lockdown. It took me a few seconds to realize that my opponent was helpless.
From this position I felt that I could sweep my opponent backwards so I let go of the Lockdown, posted my feet and easily swept them over and got the top position.
I would call the technique the 100% because it has worked for me 100% of the time once I have the arm trapped. Eddie already named a technique that so I call this the Golden Arm sweep.

I like to keep the Ball & Socket grip when I Whip the leg up in order to keep my opponents base broken down.

Oops! Step 6 should say:
Now I can let go of the Lockdown and post my feet on the mat. All I have to do at this point is...

Nice. I love two on ones. This is cool!
Hands up, chin down!
Thanks JMall, I like this....might have to try this tonight!
fixed it Jason.
It's hard for me to see with the angle, but in steps 6 and 7, what is preventing him from letting go of the whizzer with his right arm and posting out with it to prevent the sweep?
Hey Adrian,
Even if they release the whizzer you will still get the sweep.
They might try to base with that arm but if you explode with the bridge and raise your hips up high they will go right over.
Thanks Chaz for the correction on step 6.
Peace,
J

nice job..I do the same sweep from the bottom of crossbody. I'll trap his near leg with my leg and force him to move to kesa. As soon as he switches to kesa, I do the same arm trap for the sweep.
Sounds cool. You should take some pictures and post it !

Thanks! I saw this and actually used it rolling this weekend. We were doing the same drill. The only thing different was I rolled him and went to side control.
Fear not the man who practices 1000 moves. Fear the man who practices one move 1000 times.
Glad to be of help !
