Howdy Set Up to D'Arce

Here is a fun follow-up move using two of my favorite submissions. Using the step over to set up the "Howdy", followed up by the D'Arce. Thanks to Lockflow member "Bawajiwe" for letting me crank on him.

Here's the video, check out the step by step below the vid!

  • Step 1
  • Here, I have the Judo position on Eddie
  • Step 2
  • I put my right leg over Eddie's head - in a effort to bait him to push it off
  • Step 3
  • Eddie falls for the bait and pushes my right leg off his head with his right hand
  • Step 4
  • I take my right hand and reach over Eddie's right arm and under his head as I drop my upper body down to trap Eddie's arm
  • Step 5
  • In order to avoid to "Howdy", Eddie shrimps to his left hip and begins to make space...
  • Step 6
  • As I feel Eddie escaping the "Howdy", I grab the crown of Eddie's head with my right hand and pull his head in towards my chest
  • Step 7
  • I quickly overhook Eddie's right arm with my left hand and reach under Eddie's neck
  • Step 8
  • I now slide my right hand across the back of Eddie's head and lock my right bicep with my left hand as I grab Eddie's back with my right hand
  • Step 9
  • Keep my arms locked tight, I switch to my right hip and throw my left leg over Eddie's right leg (or Back) and expand my chest, arch my hips, squeeze my arms and twist upwards to finish the choke.

I will have to play with this one... so many options once one gets their leg over their opponent's head!

Just the facts maam.

yeah, and if they happen to flatten out on their backs from the D'arce, you can swithc to a RAT!

Nice transition from one to the other.. I find myself using both of these alot.. D'Arce and Howdy.. this is a nice way to tie them together.

See video

Awesome Charlie! That's a great transition and seeing it at speed made me go 'daaaamn' Wink.

I don't have to win every time, it doesn't bother me in the slightest to get tapped. So I'm able to learn the ins and outs without my ego getting in the way. - Eu

I will have to play with this one. The Howdy has become my favorite submission, and this could be very handy for the few that defend it well.

Thanks for posting this technique.

sweet technique I'll have to try this out asap. thank you for breaking it down and showing at speed. I also appreciate the multiple angles you showed us by having the pictures from a different angle than the video. thanks!

i like that!

I played with this while rolling tonight. I found that with my short arms it was a difficult and somewhat awkward reach, but when I caught it, it was money. Thanks again for posting.

Im digging this ... im trying it tonight in grappling Smile

To be the best you have to beat the best.

Best part about this video is Eddi"s hang loose right in the end... lol

That is a sweet set-up. I got my first d'arce from the butterfly this weekend. Its become one of my favorite subs. This is going to increase my game quite a bit.

Glacier MMA - Out Cold

Smooth! I'll have to start playing around with that one!
