Indian death lock from head & arm

The Indian Death Lock is one of those techniques you don't see enough of.For those who have never been on the giving or receiving end of this tech.before going into endless debates about ''what ifs'' and ''I think I could do this or that'' give it a try,you might be amazed how simple and efective it is.There is a direct way of getting into it from a Lockdown, that was masterfuly demonstrated by Mr Eric Paulson a few weeks ago on this site, but you can also get it from the head & arm.I've always had lots of success with this one, hope you will too

  • 1
  • secure Head & arm position
  • 2
  • if he overhooks your far leg
  • 3
  • bring his leg in with your knee and grab his his foot
  • 4
  • place your elbow in the inner part of his shin (the space between the calf muscle and the shin)
  • 5
  • continue bringing his leg towards you using your leg.pull the toe in and push your elbow into his shin.
  • 6
  • if he manages to triangle your leg
  • 7
  • Slip your foot over his bottom leg.you can either jam by hooking his ankle or higher up on the shin
  • 8
  • let go of his head and start spinning towards your legs.keep a tight lock on his bottom foot
  • 9
  • pass your leg completely across his body as you spin.Again, keep a tight lock on his foot
  • 10
  • Get uo and straighten your hooking leg.the goal is to push his trapped foot towards is butt
  • 11
  • step back and push down on his knees.and voila...

Yeah! IDL Revolution Baby!!!

Just when I thought I had a pretty good handle on most of the basic moves, submissions and variations, along comes Catch. This is such good stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Indian Death Lock RULES!!!

Do you risk your opponent taking your back in steps 3-7?

ok now i know why u cant unlock your legs i got caught in this last night from the scorpian

Not if you lock the position just right. For the vid I took some of my weight of my partner but normaly, if you look at pic 1 that is how you should keep the hold all trough the sequence.Slide your tigh under his shoulder and keep upwards head control, these two action will stop him from turning into you. Also keep your butt slightly off the ground this will add more weight to the hold down.

the above statement was in answer to teamrenzo' question .

This is a move that we all the time back in the late 90's. This is a solid technique

FANTASTIC MOVE SIR. I am a lockdown guy, and lots of folks try to play it back at me when I get in their half guard, and almost without exception I manage to catch them with the IDL the first time we roll. Now I have another way of getting there, thanks.

When Chuck Norris' urine tested positive for steroids he responded "What do you think they make steroids from?"

"FANTASTIC MOVE SIR. I am a lockdown guy, and lots of folks try to play it back at me when I get in their half guard, and almost without exception I manage to catch them with the IDL the first time we roll. Now I have another way of getting there, thanks."

That's what I'm talking about. There are a lot of guys out there that complain about "Bravo Haters" but then when someone else comes up with some slick counter moves to their game, they hate on it in exactly the same dogmatic way.

I applaud your open mind. I like using the lockdown, and I like knowing how to counter it when it's used against me. I also like knowing what counters someone my use, next time I use the lockdown. This one is a beauty.

I've been pulling this technique off like everytime. Thank you so much.
