Ever been thrown to the mat after attempting a round kick to the body? Well practice this nifty little counter and surprise them next time. GO WITH THE FLOW!!
Sorry if it's alittle fuzzy, these pics are from video.

  • Square off
  • Joe and I square off.
  • The Kick
  • I fire a rear round kick to the body as Joe steps out to his right and prepares to catch the leg.
  • The Catch
  • He traps my leg...
  • Here We Go
  • turns his body into the leg to knock me off balance as he goes to push my shoulder out for the trip he's about to do.
I inturn hook his arm to set up the lock.
  • Goin' Down
  • Before he can get his right foot behind my support leg to trip me, I sit with the twisting momentum.
  • Go With The Flow
  • I let the momentum carry me through...
  • The Begining Of The End
  • as I throw my leg out and around to trap his head.
  • Begin The Armbar
  • I hook his head and push him to the mat.
  • Finish
  • And finish with a basic armbar.

As a grappler this technique rocks, as a striker...get off my arm, damnit!

Lucky is the man who never has to confront what he is truly capable of.

Very nice. My sparring instructor will counter my round kick sometimes like that. Hopefully I can catch him in this. >:-D

Good stuff.

For the people who aren't as good grapplers as they would hope, if you get your roundhouse kick caught, one thing I like to do is immediatly grab the head in a clinch and throw a knee.
