  • Begin
  • im setting up my brabo choke
  • 1
  • I lock the choke in by grabbing my right bicep with my left hand
  • 2
  • Next i will step my left foot over his BOTTOM leg. i try to do this as unnoticably as possible. But my opponent is wise to what im trying to do to him so he looks up as hard as he can to defend the lock on his neck
  • 3
  • i will let my opponent break his head out of my lock while i post my weight up on my right arm and leg.
  • 4
  • Next i will back spin and sit on my opponents right hip, and begin my attack on his leg
  • 5
  • I fall to my right side and attack the kneebar by putting my heels on his butt and i personally like my topside hand to grab his heel while i place my head on the inside of his big toe.
  • fin
  • and finish my kneebar by rotating flat to my back and turn his heel up toward the ceiling, while arching backward

Nifty move, however it wouldn't be so easy to get on a somewhat experienced opponent. Also if you miss it he's got a great chance at your back.

I like how the guy thinks he got out of the Brabo, and is not seeing that the transition is leading to the kneebar.

I love the idea of this move, but I wonder if there's a way to have more control over your opponent when making this transition.

Bawajiwe tried this setup on me when we were rolling - and it caught me totally off guard... some of the students have been using it with great success...nice one.

Thanks for the comments guys.

isnt it true that if you miss any kneebar he has a chance at your back?
i encourage you to try this technique, and practice it...with the proper setup, its alot smoother and easier then you may think

Zen-

im not a huge fan of forcing submissions.i like to attack something hard so people fight it hard, and then use their movement to transition into my next option. if you attack the brabo hard and make him think he needs to defend against it you can do the backspin with no problems. and the other side of that is, if he doesnt defend the brabo then finish the choke! you can go either way, however some guys have a strong neck and can defend it everytime. so when he looks up hard generally he practically lays himself on his back. all im doing is following the momentum and attacking the leg. just like ipso, i encourage you to try it before you say theres a lack of control

I see your point Bawajiwe. I will give this move a shot.

P.S. Any more flows that start with the Brabo? I'd love to see some of your other stuff.

yeah ill take some pics tonight maybe.

cool. ive been wanting to learn some good kneebar setup

Franklin Roosevelt once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Well guess what, i am fear.

Bawajiwe, your absolutly right about committing to your bait. It's the same principle when striking. If they don't defend your feint, then you hit them, or choke them, or do whatever it is your going for. Although, I will admit it seems a little unorthodox, but sometimes those techniques work out better then the more common techniques.

Tried during free roll last night. Set it up only once though and missed it. Didn't set up my feet tight enough in move 4 & 5. I can see how it would work though, but i'll have to drill it more.

nice move Coach Eddie Laughing out loud

I like the way your combo goes from attacking the head, then transitioning all the way to the leg. I can see how that could catch some one off guard. You're use to someone switching from one submission attempt to another, but usualy it's in the same general area. Kneebar to toehold,TA to Armbar to TA, achillies to heelhook, etc..

Nice transition, I saw a student attempt this in class I wonder if he's been picking up stuff from this site Smile Keep up the good work I love transitions.

Years of useless knowledge finally being utilized.

uh...why give up a superior position for a "chance" submission which will expose your back? Why not just mount him?

Did that a few weeks ago....well before I'd seen this. Worked for me.

this is not what flow locking is about you need to learn quick chains not jump and spin to other position and eavin if you get to your end position an good dude is going to boot your ass hard and escape

but the twisting will help but this is a low % switch

prohooker-

no its not

leg locks are typically lower percentage, but the physical mechanics of the kneebar make it higher percentage. It will dislocate your knee joint, tearcalf muscle, and even strain hamstring muscles... with the ankle twist it adds more torque on the calf muscles, as well as ripping the achilles tendon and dislocating the ankle. Enough force and the proper set up (drill, drill, drill, drill, DRILL) is all that is required for this (and other kneebars) technique to work.

i like it...
