Leg Control Shot
This is the technique i teach to people who come in with previous experience in folk style wrestling who want to integrate their old training in with their new training at Remix Dojo. This is a basic single leg shot, but with a few key changes. first, both knees go on the inside of the leg you are attacking, and secondly you do not force them forward or pick them up. instead you fall back into a leg control position, and then work them over from there. If someone is already really quick with their shots, this is an easy entry into leg control.
-
the fight
-
the shot
-
the shot 2
-
the sit
-
the wrap
-
the stacked position
-
extend
-
the slide
you want to shoot on them, but you want to finish the fight quickly. points do not matter to you, all that matters is the sub.
drop level and enter for a single leg shot as you normally would but make sure your lead knee is heading in between your opponents legs, and not toward the outside.
you should end up with your head on the inside against his hip, your arms wrapped tightly around his lead thigh, and your lead knee on the INSIDE as apposed to most traditional shots.
the key point on the sit is to make sure you DO NOT leg go of his thigh. you need to hold on to this very tightly so that when you sit back his weight is pulled forward and off balance. let your lead leg go though his legs and let your back foot slide up into his crotch with your knee pointing out.
your lead leg should wrap around his thigh. make sure your other foot does not come out from in between his legs or he can mount a counter attack. at this point you should still be hugging his thigh tightly.
you should end up looking something like this.his leg should be completely under your control and he should be off balance. you should STILL be holding tightly onto his thigh.
extend your legs into his body. your bottom leg should hit his other thigh and your top leg should press against his hip. this should force him to the mat.
as he falls, you can now loosen your grip on his thigh and slide your arms back toward his ankle. This will set you up for various leg locks and if you are fast you can finish the strait ankle lock with out having to even change your grip.

Good Stuff Reilly!
when u did it slow i was like that wont work... then u did it at full speed and i was like "DAMN". note to self never doubt reilly on leg control/leg locks
It's all a puzzle, isn't it, Joseph? Like a game of chess, perhaps. The pieces move, apparently aimlessly, but always towards one single objective: to kill the king. But who is the king in this game, Joseph? That is the question you must ask yourself.
great move, I was thinking.... wow that looks like a sambo move
then I noticed who posted it
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"
hey reilly is it possible (or effective) to leg triangle on the wrap or is it just aesthetics

Reilly, do you ever use the low single/dart shot or ankle pick to set up this same sequence?

i only use the leg triangle if i made a mistake and my inside leg got pulled out. i do not use the leg triangle otherwise.
enigmachryalis:
you can do this any time you have a leg under your armpit. so if you pick up a leg off the mat, you can just sit right back down with it. or off of a caught kick.
Nice Reilly! I like this tech
NICE!!!!
Coolness! Looks like a nice/clean way to transition to Xguard
You know what I hate about today?!? It's still happening.

damn, you definitely are feeling better. I like this.
Face your fear, close the distance.
Rick Roll free since 3/31/08 (5/26/09).
kevin... i thought so too. then i sparred today and re injured my back and had to be driven home by a student and practically carried up the stairs by mike. =( im not going to make it to grapplers quest.
niteshroud:
i find that the leg triangle stops my leg control game dead in its tracks, and i can not make changes quickly if i need to, or change to attacking the other leg fast enough. are your triagnling toward the outside, or triangling toward the inside and burying your foot under the your partners knee
send me a PM with more information on what your doing and i can try and help.
awesome thanks reilly
Love this 1 i will get this and the rick roll on someone 2day =)
Hahah ^
I like this one, thanks.
" Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you."
I'm gonna try it tonight at practice! Looks awesome!

Very nice. I gotta learn this one.
Great stuff ! Reily, what do you do if the guy sprawls ?
jMall,
its still a shot. if the guy sprawls you can switch to take his back, change angles and keep driving until you get him on his back. im sure if you look you can find instructionals on how to continue with a shot after a sprawl.
the leg control is an option you can take off of a successful shot.
Reilly,
I've done a bit of wrestling and the counter is to drop the right hip down as you sprawl your legs back and cross face with the left forearm.
But like all techniques if your timing is right and you catch the guy out of position I guess this could work.

watch this technique being done by Imanari at 1:12 of this clip:
Sweet ! I guess I think in terms of wrestling because I have not had an opportunity to train Sambo.
My original question was what do you do personlly if you shoot and the guy sprawls. Can you still get the heel hook ? If you switch to another technique, what do you like to do ?
i personally do not shoot.
i usually go foot first to achieve leg locks, or grab the leg from standing and swing myself in.
this technique is something i teach to wrestlers who are already comfortable with shooting. they already have preexisting instincts on shot recovery, and when they try this technique and it doesnt work they work their shots as normal, and try and switch out to take the back or change angle and drive.
the first clip in the below video is one of my students who grabed the leg first and instead of lifting for a takedown he slid underneath:
i know thats not quite the same tech as this, but its the same idea.
but if you are asking about me personally, i usually go in foot first as in the first clip of this video:
Hey Reilly,
Thanks for taking the time to get those links. I really like the way that you transitioned from the right leg to the left leg in the second video when he defended the toe hold.
Leg locks are not really part of my game but I like to study them. Maybe one day life will take where I can train with some good Sambo guys !
Peace,
JMall

Nice. Love the control on this move
Reilly great post one of my trainers. Kitaoka (Sengoku tourney winner) showed us this move and as you know he uses it very well in comp. I wonder if there is a variation of counters or escapes posted.
