No-gi Choke from Mount

Lockflow.com member KeithM, sent in this technique for our database, He explains, "This is a choke that is a variation of a lapel choke to fit no-gi or subgrappling. its probably to hard to pull in MMA with gloves on, but its great if you don't want to pound the guys face in."

Black has mount and has managed to pass Greys arm to the other side. Black would normally drop his weight onto the arm to help secure it (not

with Blacks weight on Greys elbow, Black has passed his left hand behind Greys head and secured Greys Right arm. With a firm grip on Greys wrist, Black creates space between greys head and arm and feeds his right hand through.
After feeding the hand through Black then grabs onto his own arm.
Once Black has ahold of his arm he then slowly walks his fingers down his forearm closer towards greys neck. Get as tight and secure as you can at
this point so you have less work to do to finish.

To finish Black will then drive his right elbow towards the mat. Depending on how Grey positions his head the Forearm will crush the trachea

Gonna play with this tomorrow!
nice, i seen this move before.
天下無難事,只怕有心人
yeah its my first technique i've submitted for the site so i hope you guys like it.

when chuck norris goes to sleep, he checks under hes bed for Randy Couture!
Very nice....I never even thought about doing that. I usually go for the sidechoke.
Thanks Again.

looks like A nogi ezekiel choke. nice move!!

Yeah, your right it's a very nice alternative to simply hitting somebody once you get that arm wrapped, and so much more original. Nice.
Oops, I meant "you're" not your. My English teacher would be so disapointed.
That's pretty slick!!! Good one KeithM!!!
This is one of my favorites. I call this a cobra choke from the gift wrap. I perfer doing the blood choke version because I'm a nice guy!
Another variation: You can also take your hand and use it as a fist pressing into his neck. Both this type and the one in the article don't always work (no submission is 100%. Which is why I transition to other moves
Tip: Make your hand a "knife-edge" when slipping it in.
Tip: Pull the uke on his side before doing the choke. That makes it easier for me, and you can transition to an armbar, a kimura, or a 2-on-1 to the back if you prefer.
I like setting this up from a high mount. I will go for an americana. If my opponent pulls his arm over his head, I switch to this. Once you got it, use your chest/bodyweight to help keep it locked and the uke pinned.
You can set up the move from guard too. Once you get a gift wrap, you have simular options plue an easy sweep.

In pro-wrestling, it is also called a cobra clutch or million dollar dream.

there are very few no gi chokes that I don't know of, but I've never seen this one which kind of amazes me....If anybody has tried this one can they comment on if it is a SOLID choke that is pretty high percentage, or is it kind of difficult to cinch up and finish with it??? Thanks.
I played with it today, and I'm certainly no expert on this move - but once in, it was pretty solid, I did have some problems maintaining position from the bridge and arch, but it served well as a set up off those counters. Gonna have to continue to play with it before I rank it.
Ok i'll give it a three star rating right now, i'd give it a four or five as a set up move.
The submission is pretty solid. It is easier to set up in grappling than mma because of the glove issue; however, that is not that big a deal IME.
CombatChaz: Pull on the gift wrap so he turns onto his side. Then he can't bridge and you can easily finish him a number of ways...
"If the path is set in stone, use a sledge-hammer."
Quantum Jim!, I generally only use this when i've set it up from the guard and sweep by hooking the leg almost like a windmill sweep. is that how you do the sweep? Depending on how he reacts after the sweep i either proceed with the choke or take the back.
i'd say its pretty solid, it's worked enough for me to put faith in it.
'Now we will practice armbarring the Hulk, No wait, Hulk is too strong, its not possible to armbar him.....BATMAN!...yes, now we will practice armbarring Batman'

Nice input guys! - this is why I created Lockflow!
I playedwith this tonight and like Chaz said I had a hardtime keeping mount. I had to let it go to keep the position. Also as I dropped my elbow toward the mat like step 5 my right hand would slip off the grip and my partners free hand would defend real well.(while sparring) Yet when we justtested the technique to learn it it worked well. So I would classify the move as a personal goto technique if you are comfortable withit. Still a cool choke though!!!
Oh... and you know me... I don't like a technique that has too many movements to set up so if I could I'd like to change my rank to 4 stars!!!
KeithM, that's one sweep I use from the gift wrap in guard. Sometimes I just roll to that side too when I sweep. Sometimes instead I sweep to the back straight from guard. He is like a three-legged chair so it is mostly easy to do most sweeps.
Sergio, try this. Instead of step 5, use a hook-grip (thumb with other fingers) and straighten your arms just like a collar choke. This is the opposite motion as in the picture. This makes a vice-like pressure on his arteries. This variation is only a blood choke.
TTYTT, you don't need to hold your own arm either. If necessary, just use your fist digging into his neck.
P.S. To set up the gift wrap from guard, use a 2-on-1 to an arm drag. Bridge and pull his arm across your body. Then hug closely that side while keeping control of his wrist with the other arm. When uke pulls back, guide his arm across his head to your hugging hand. If he doesn't pull his arm back, do an armbar or triangle or take the back.
"If the path is set in stone, use a sledge-hammer."
Hmm... Ima give it a 3 too! Not super controlling but it is effective once it gets locked in. Thanks a bunch for the technique Keith

ima give this 4 stars> 2 for the tech and 2 for the 20 comments above this one.
This is the reason i come to lockflow
It is not necessary to give everything all the time.
Instead we must realise the critical moments and give it all then.
"2 for the tech and 2 for the 20 comments above this one." LOL!!! Awsome!!!!
It's a front variation of the old "Cobra Clutch"/"Million Dollar Dream". Sweet!
Sergeant Slaughter would be proud.

I teach this to all my students we call it the choke collar. The thing that is very cool about it is if you do it right they set theirself into an armbar. Good demonstration

"the gift wrap" is a sweet, extremely controlling position. Obviously in the street you could just end it with a couple strikes but in a roll, this is a nice alternative. I don't see him bridging out if you can pull in his arm hard enough to roll him to his size.
very nice!! will try this tonight.

"Napoleon your just jealous because you know im training to be a cage fighter"
Yea, Ive seen this choke before, my teacher has showed us. I also seen it in one of Ken Shamrock's books, but for some reason he calls it an arm triangle if I'm not mistaken, but it looks like no arm triangle that I have seen before.
Just the facts maam.
This is a fun move to use on newbee's, but if you leave their other arm free the just have to pry your fingers off to escape.
OOooOOoo.....looks fancy.
Remember Remember the 5th of Smarch...
this is a keeper works well in guard and side mount

I try this, but it's hard to get step 1 and 2 for me. I would imagine everything else would flow if I could but most people resist pretty well.
