Open Guard Bicep Lock from Guard Pass

Heres a sneaky little move that you can set up when your opponent is trying to pass your open guard.

Its more of a gi technique but I use it regularly in no gi sparring so I thought i'd put it up here and see if anyone else can use it.

  • 1 - Open Guard
  • Start off in the open guard with double wrist control
  • 2 - Loop Leg Over
  • keeping control of the wrists, loop your leg over their arm...
  • 3 - Hook In
  • ...and hook it into the crook of their elbow NOTE: some people will grab your leg now as if setting up an Achilles lock, dont worry, just keep hold of the wrist, them holding on will actually make it easier to apply!
  • 4 - Invite Pass
  • Place your shin onto the opposite hip and invite the guard pass. The more they pass and drop their weight, the stronger the submission will be.
  • 5 - Leg Triangle
  • As they start to pass, triangle your legs and keep a tight control on their trapped wrist, you can now let go with your other hand and...
  • 6 - Underhook
  • underhook their trapped arm and grab the back of their triceps. Again, you are keeping control of the trapped wrist.
  • 7 - Grab Triceps
  • Once you have the triangle and underhook you can let go of the wrist and grab the triceps with both hands for a nice strong grip.
  • 8 - Hips Up Finish
  • Now to finish, press your hips up and pull down with both hands for a nice bicep lock.

awesome, thanks for the technique!

That's well mad Danny, In was showing this on Saturday in class, with the gi! There's a host of other funky moves from that position, will have to get them up on here!

Works a lot better with the gi, more secure grip; I teach a sweep first from the leg over arm position, then once they are familiair with the sweep, I go into a few 'what if?' scenarios.

I have the same technique done with the gi in my You Tube account, taken 4 years ago; I'll film another one this week and post it up!

I like this...and will be trying it tonight in gi

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity!

This is a sweet move, we went over this one a few weeks ago but I never really got the hang of it.

I used to get caught in this all the time. Very sneaky and painful move against aggressive passer.

Never argue with an idiot, cause he'll bring you down to his level and beat you with experience

Totally worked last night...hahhaha...I love techniques that make the other person think, "I've got you know"....then bam!

Sneaky- just how we like em

Being attacked is like being asked a question- if you answer right you won't get asked anymore questions.

No doubt bro. I love a good setup.

Thanks for the tech Danny!

oh man that looks awesome!

i love the inferior position subs. makes people go wtf?

"i love the inferior position subs. makes people go wtf?"

Lol, no doubt. I love them if I manage to pull them off. I HATE them when I get caught in them...

One thing my instructor shows in this sub is to not only squeeze the tricep and elevate the hip, but also stretch your knee away from your body. This drives the shin bone deeper into the elbow, and the closer that bone is to where the tendon connects at the base of the muscle, the more painful the sub is.

have done this move off of a spider guard

It's all a puzzle, isn't it, Joseph? Like a game of chess, perhaps. The pieces move, apparently aimlessly, but always towards one single objective: to kill the king. But who is the king in this game, Joseph? That is the question you must ask yourself.
