Passing Through The Guard

Here's a basic but effective way to pass the guard. This tech is a "Guard Slice Through" which means you're driving right through your opponent's guard to get to a side control position. This technique will help your guard pass if have trouble clearing one's legs. This technique is designed to get you to a safe and dominant position which will open your offensive game up, giving you more tools to use.
Check it out!
Sitting in my opponent's closed Guard.
I put my hands on my opponent's stomach and I take two steps back with my knees to create space and I put my knees in between the crack of my opponent's butt. Keeping my elbows in and tight, I then cut my body in half by stepping out with my left leg and turning my shoulders outward as I push on my opponent's stomach, adding pressure to his rib-cage while I scoot back forcing my opponent's guard to open.
NOTE: Keep scooting back to create space so that you're able to lift your knee up the middle to a neutral position.
Once I know there's enough space, I then lift my knee up the middle to keep his guard open. By lifting my knee up and sitting in a "Shoe Tie" position, my leg becomes a wall between my opponent and I and this wall keeps him from closing his guard again. *A helpful trick to make this effective is to expand your back a little and stay scooted out a little so that your oponnent's legs aren't long enough to wrap around you and close.*
Since my right knee is up in this tech, my hand will attack my opponent's right wrist, dominating it and opening it outward so that he doesn't push my knee as I make my move coming in.
While my opponent's right hand is being dominated, that's the side I have to pass. I begin to slice through my opponent's guard on his right side (my left). As I'm slicing through, my right hand controls my opponent's left bicep while my knee is slicing through on my left side, moving toward the left hand that's being controlled. As I'm crossing, I keep openning my opponent's arm outward so that I make space for me to come to a complete sit-out side control position.
Landing in the sit-out position, I scoop the elbow up and clear it by tucking it underneath my armpit so that he doesn't try pushing me off him with his right hand.
Controling my opponent's right arm, I then sweep it up as I turn in with my left knee positioned deep underneath my opponent's shoulder and right arm for a nice clean pass to side control position.
And here I am safe and sound in full side control position. Remember folks, POSITION BEFORE SUBMISSION is key here. You need to establish position first before you attempt your submission otherwise you'll miss it everytime you try leaving you wondering why it's not working. Position Before Submission! Remeber that! This side control position will open your game up for your attack now because as you know, for every action there's a reaction. Thank you. Now give this tech a shot!

Thanks Joe!
cool, thanks
Do I wanna fight?
Hell yeah I wanna fight!
This is the pass I use about 80% of the time I'm in the guard, it's money.
Great pass, thanks.
I like it. I use it. But I get swept alot using it. Around picture 4 "making the wall". My leg is trapped and they control the wrist on the same side. No posts, so over I go. any suggestions anyone?

maybe create a wide base and keep ur head a bit low to help keep ur balance. and make sure they're not controlling ur wrist or arms.
天下無難事,只怕有心人
oppps, i mean wider base. and u don't wan tot b too low cuz u no, they can maybe get a triangle.

I attempt to use this pass but am still a little uncomfortable with it. I know, I get the point of my knee against the tailbone and step back with my other leg and turn my body sideways toward them. But it looked like in this particular one once he had his arms locked out straight against his stomach, he then scooted the knee that WAS against the tailbone back out a little bit. Is that what happened?
Just the facts maam.
I prefer to pass standing, but when I do pass on the knees, this is the gold standard.
Up and Over you'll go if your butt is up in the air as you try to pass. Stay low other he may hook his left leg under you ("De La Riva Guard") and launch you. Stay low and tight and if you have to, slice your knee out more as your chest is low close to his.
Stay low and pull his arm outward or even out high as your weight is smashing on the pass. I do that do sometimes when I have to adjust my pass on different body types.
When sliding on a sit-out, come in like as if you're sliding on second base, low and tight.
This pass will set you up for the famous "D'Arce" choke which I will post in a few. Look out for the tech.

this is only if you can dominate your opponents hand, which i think is difficult when trying to pass.
"Kill something everyday, no matter how small or insignificant, if for no other reason, but to maintain proficiency."
If my opponent decides to fight my hand and want to psuh
my knee, that's fine, I just push his knee downward and make left leg step over and around.
Not difficult at all. This is a basic pass you learn in the first
week of guard passes.
