This technique is a defense to the Lockdown. Eddie taught this in class at 10th Planet Hollywood but he never gave it a name so I call it the Prison Break.

It is very important that you defend the Lockdown before you pass your opponent's guard. If you do not free your leg from the Lockdown you are risking damage to your knee.

Eddie's Lockdown is strong enough to damage your knee. Especially if he goes to the Electric Chair.

  • Step 1
  • Here Jason Mallory is caught in Patrik Bogyo's Lockdown and Patrik has double underhooks.
  • Step 2
  • Here I put my left forearm across my opponent's neck.
  • Step 3
  • Next I drive my forearm into his neck and sit my weight back. This will force his arms to pop open.
  • Step 4
  • Once his arms pop open I lock both arms under his legs and post my head on the mat tight to his body so he cannot go for a Guillotine. You can Gable grip your hands under his legs but I like to use the Ball & Socket grip.
  • Step 5
  • Once your hands are locked you do a back kick the break open the Lockdown. This has to be in one hard, fast motion.
  • Step 6
  • After your leg is free you step it around to the hip opposite your head while keep your hands locked.
  • Step 7
  • Then you swim your left hand behind your opponent's neck and ....
  • Step 8
  • Establish Side Control.

Oh, one more thing. Make sure your opponent does not get an arm in during the transition from step 3 to step 4. If he gets his left arm in he can go for the 100% sweep.

Awesome, never thought of that! Since this is a guard that is really hard to pass, I'll give it 5!

Just the facts maam.

This has worked every time I've used it. Very good technique.

thanks for the technique!

nice, thanks!

天下無難事,只怕有心人

If you forget to keep your head tight to his body and he manages to get a hand around your neck to try a guillotine, would it make it much harder to break the lockdown if you've already got your arms around his legs?

Bullfight critics ranked in rows

But only one is there who knows
and he's the man who fights the bull.

I have never had anyone actually get the guillotine locked in.

If you are not quick and tight enough they can go for the 100%. I have had that happen before so I had to defend that to keep from getting swept over.

Nice technique. This will help me out a lot.

If the person has a real strong Lockdown it might take a couple of kicks to get your leg free.

As you kick lift your trapped foot. This will help slice through the Lockdown.

Good stuff, Good stuff, Tried it, 100% effective...

Got another one you can check out here:

This one works great too. It was really hard to explain but it works great.

Looks like I could use that. I will give it a try.

Hands up, chin down!

sweet. i've got a guy in my class with a crushing half guard.... gonna definitely use this....

Tae Kwon Do 8 yrs, Kickboxing 4 yrs, BJJ 1 .5 yrs

I love that move when I am on top, but hate it when I am locking the other guy down. Works every time I use it on top, but unfortunately it also works every time the other guy uses it when I am on bottom. Very strong, effective move.

When Chuck Norris' urine tested positive for steroids he responded "What do you think they make steroids from?"

Can't wait to use this.

Fighting solves everything!
