The Rat Guard

Introduction to the Rat Guard, one of the systems Radical MMA NYC uses for their MMA-oriented guard fighting. I'm not sure why this is called the Rat guard, maybe it something todo with cheese. However this position does provide us with an option for controlling our opponent's posture.

Rene has been teaching the rat-guard for years. It's very effective, I'm a Relson Gracie Blackbelt and have trouble passing it. Relson doesn't approve of most of the newer hybrid guard setups (50/50,butterfly,spider,ect) but this type of guard works so easily and protects you from punches so well that I can't see any reason to use another type in MMA or in self defense .
