sambo: kneebar from scarf hold

this is a fun little trick when someone is trying to take your back when you have scarf hold.

  • they try and take your back
  • someone hooks over your top leg with their top leg
  • lock it down
  • you lock that leg under your bottom leg
  • the catch
  • then use your top leg to go find and hook their free leg
  • cross
  • cross your ankles in order to keep their legs under control for when you make the move to the kneebar
  • kneebaaaaah
  • let go of scarf and go get your gift wrapped kneebar. be careful... this one is really painful.

Ouch.

Great stuff.

Is there a timing gap between cross and kneeebahh?

what do you mean josh?

very nice. Is there anything else you can do from scarf hold when someone's trying to take your back?

keep your enemies close...keep your elbows closer

-or marcelo will break them.

Don't want to speak for josh, but I'd think you wouldn't want to hang out a long time with the forward leg tucked back, lest you be tipped toward that corner. You could probably still get the kneebar and I don't know how much push he'd get with that trapped leg, but ok.

That's awesome! Heh... and we just worked taking the back from Kesa last night. Damn it. Just when you thought you were out, you get suckered into a knee bar. Brilliant.

Riss kind of covered it.

Seems like even with you might be vulnerable if you don't make the grap immediate.

ouch... in bjj, in what level do they allow kneebars? does it go the same for sambo?

Non magnitudo canis in pugna, sed pugnae in cane est.

hardcorehalo:

sambo works kneebars day 1, and there are no skill levels in sambo, so they are always allowed. depending on the type of sambo you are playing, and were you are (different places have different rules) twisting leg locks may or may not be legal.

i have no idea about bjj though. i think the main difference is not only if a kneebar is legal, but how you attack the legs in general in bjj is greatly restricted. almost all of the techniques that i show as being 'good leg control' are not allowed in strait bjj competitions because they involve what they call 'reaping the leg,' which is putting twisting pressure on the hip or knee to control someone.

i dont know about this technique though, it may be perfectly legal in bjj.

Slick!

Brutal and effective!
