Scissor Kick to Heel Hook
![]() |
This is my favorite submission. I even tried it on Royler Gracie at the 2003 Abu Dhabi Submission Championships. I got the takedown, I got the heel hook, but that darn Royler is very flexible and his ankle just kept on turning. Royler ended up getting my back... Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

Eddie and Kale start in the stand up position.
Eddie grabs the back of Kale's neck with his left hand.
Eddie steps up with his right foot to his left. Eddie bends both knees to prepare for the jump.
Eddie jumps in the air and plants his right hand on the mat for balance (some people do not use a post). Eddie's left leg wraps around Kale's midsection as his right leg wraps around the back of both Kale's knees. Eddie tries to keep his right knee between the legs of Kale.
Using his body as a swivel, Eddie drives his left leg backward and his right leg forward. Eddie also uses his left hand to pull the shoulder of Kale backwards. As Eddie hits the mat, he is careful to keep his knees together. Eddie also keeps his body forward to keep Kale's leg from popping out.
Eddie sits up, trapping Kales leg.
Eddie drops his right tricep back, looking for Kale's right heel as he drives his right thigh into Kale's knee.
Eddie wraps his right wrist under Kale's right heel and locks his hands together.
Eddie finishes the submission by rolling Kale's heel to the left as he squeezes his knees together and arches his hips.

Ryo vs Anderson Silva! One of the best submissions ever pulled off in MMA.
Im going to try to give this a try tonight. I hope its a finisher.
Snap or tap your choice!
I hope I can do this in wrestling without getting pinned immediately.
Cause, y'know.... This would get me friends/girls.
So the rubber didn't go as planned. Oh well, it's only $30.
On a side note to Step 4, if you do not post your hand (which I recommend) you can reach for the near leg to prevent any sort of scramble.
This and the momentum will also help pull him down w/ you; you can let go of the grip on his shoulder as soon as he is in range.
If he is able to move that near foot, you can grab for the far foot for my favorite, a leg lace, or any other type of ankle lock.
It also helps to weave the front leg under his far leg as if he has a high single.

i do this like every single competition ive ever been in and i ALWAYS get the takedown.
but thats just me, and i love scissors, and my coach doesnt let me do them in sparring anymore in sparring cause they hurt peoples anckles.
so.... nice add!
A nice move and an even better story!
Right leg hospital-Left leg cemetary.
I like this one too
If you've been in one battle no matter what the out come of that battle you need not fear a hundred battles....
watch out Imanari...i know this move too... =)
The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

moves like this are why i kept with sambo. i remember i was like 13 and my sambo coach showed me how to land this. i use the scissor takedown (or at least try) every match.
Hey all, i tried this takedown today in sparring for the first time.. and it worked a charm.. twice!!! spot on when i said about a mate was critical.. i'll try it on him next week ;o)
