Scissor Takedown from Russian 2-on-1
![]() |
this is a basic scissor takedown but a bit of a supprising entrance. using the Russian almost guarnatees that you can keep their lead foot still long enough to finish the scissor. it works pretty well. give it a try.

start with a tight Russian. Drive into them to ensure they put pressure back on you.
reach your front hand over their head and get them in a sort of head lock. at the same time bring your front leg in between theirs.
post your hand inline with the rest of your legs and bring your thigh up behind his leg. make sure you are using your thigh for the scissor NOT THE ANKLE, as people tend to do the first time they try it. reach your leg way past and use the top of the thigh.
pull down on his neck, and rotate your body so that you land on the hip closest to his head. keep your knees tight and bent so you have a good leg control when you hit the mat.

Awesome! You could really pick door A/B with this one and the rolling kneebar. Thanks Reilly!
I don't have to win every time, it doesn't bother me in the slightest to get tapped. So I'm able to learn the ins and outs without my ego getting in the way. - Eu

yeah, it all depends on where their weight is going. i have different grip preferences with both but you can do either with both grips.
"scissor him like Xerxes"
LOL!! nice South Park reference. kinda wrong, but funny.

haha... yeah totally inappropriate but everyone time someone does a scissor takedown in my school someone will yell "ahhhh.. scisssoorr" in mr garison's voice.
LOL!
the only reason i say it wrong cuz that darn nasty image pops up in my head...South Park...you scarred me for life.

I played with the russian tie a lot tonight Reilly, great stuff man thanks! We had a complete blast with it.
I found a great transition from the scissor takedown to a nice knee bar right there. POW, hey have a kneebar heh, it was loads of fun.

Great set of videos Reilly! The 2 on 1 is a really cool position with lots of options. It's been a pet project of mine for a while.
It's a real versatile position. You have Wrestling options. Judo options, Sambo options and Silat options.
I pull of the series shown here at 2:00. It's a 2 on 1 to a Judo like Uchi Mata (sorry don't know the Silat term) with an arm wrench into a Datu Luar which can also be a cross ankle pick if you want to use more of a Wrestling energy.
My problem starts at the 2 on 1 position though. I can get to it but my opponents immediately square up on me and pull their arm back with their elbow tight to their body. Do you know any ways to prevent this?
Billy Robinson showed me a Salto for when your opponent resists the 2 on 1 but that's about all I know as far as follow ups and conters are concerned. Any suggestions?
Oops, I meant to say 3:20 in the video above. I use the Datu Luar when I want to down my opponent but don't want to engage in a grappling fight. I'll use the cross ankle pick when I want to take him down and submit him.
hey Brian, if they start to square off, what you can do is set up a fireman's carry.

assuming he,s on your right side.
keep a tight lock on his arm with your left and tap his knee with your right.
Basically all you do is,as he's stepping in front of you,you block his knee and push him down on a 45 degree angle.or you could always follow up with a high single.

I forgot to mention that it,s his far (left) Knee, that you block

The move shown was awesome but the discussion below it answered questions I hadn't even asked yet, this site rules.
Being attacked is like being asked a question- if you answer right you won't get asked anymore questions.
I like it
I pray, do yoga, meditate and still want to smack people
Tank-Jitsu, I've been mulling over what you said and watching the clip... another peach to be sure, but my problem is that the guy is pulling back and getting his arm free. He's not pushing back into me and thus, I have a hard time following up with the Fireman's
Dr. Sick:
When an opponent squares with you and pulls away he normally is upright and uses his free hand to try and break the grip you have on his wrist. One option here is to practice "2-on-1" pummeling. Keep hold of your bicep grip, let go of your wrist grip, use this hand to then get a deep grip on his opposite bicep. Now if you freeze frame, you should look like you are standing square with him and have double bicep overhooks. Next, let go of the original bicep grip and grab his opposite wrist. You now have the 2-on-1 on the other side of you opponent. It is important to dig you second bicep grip deep and high as you let go of the other bicep. Remeber to use your head as another control point. I need to learn how to make videos and post them.
