Shrimping to guard is one of the basic skills needed to be an effective Grappler, especially if you are smaller than your opponent.

There are several ways to shrimp into guard, all depending on your abilities and your opponents skill levels. Here, Lockflow.com Model Rachel demonstrates the what I call the 'Top Leg Method'.

  • Step 1
  • Landon has lockflow.com model, Rachel in a side position.
  • Step 2
  • Rachel bridges off her head, and drops quickly (not shown) and drops her left elbow into Landon's right hip and her right forearm under Landon's neck
  • Step 3
  • Pushing off her forearms, Rachel turns in towards Landon and slides her hips away from him. As soon as space is created Rachel Slides her right knee into Landon's left hip
  • Step 4
  • Rachel drops her left hand down onto Landon's right knee
  • Step 5
  • Rachel begins to pull her bottom leg through the opening she has created with her right leg and left hand
  • Step 6
  • Rachel pulls her left leg all the way through and locks her legs together
