Spine Lock from back position

Whether you call it the twister, a wrestler's Guillotine or a spine lock, This technique hurts! Here is an attack for this submission when you have your opponent's back.

  • Step 1
  • I have the back position and my right hook is in (cant see)
  • Step 2
  • >
I reach my left arm under Ryan's armpit and grip my right hand. My right forearm is placed ontop of Ryan's head.
  • Step 3
  • Using the leverage of my grip, I push my right foream into Ryan's head, forcing it under his left armpit as I pull up with my left arm
  • Step 4
  • I roll over my right shoulder as I continue to push and pull with my locked grip - this motion forces Ryan to tip over
  • Step 5
  • I lock my legs together, trapping Ryan's right leg
  • Step 6
  • I release my grip and bring my left arm to Ryan's left elbow pit
  • Step 7
  • With my left hand, I grab Ryan's Left wrist. Mr right hand now swims under Ryan's left armpit
  • Step 8
  • As I continue to swim my right arm through, I place Ryan's arm behind my head with my left grip
  • Step 9
  • I reach my right arm under Ryan's head with my palm out
  • Step 10
  • I left go of Ryan's wrist with my left hand and quickly grip my fingers together. To finish the lock I pull on the top of Ryan's head as I arch my hips and pull my locked legs back

Glorious old-school classic.

isn't this kinda like the twister?

cool stuff, nonetheless.

one and the same. Twister can be set up from many enteries, this is just one.

this is also a good pinning for wrestling and ne waza judo.

If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever had sex together, would thier offspring be invisible?

Extremely uncomfortable. In wrestling I was taught to bring my opponent's forehead to my own to deliver a little extra pain.

i love the twister(spine lock), im trying to learn it from every position and angle

the human body is only as strong as its weakest link.

Another flow-->Leave the right hand to tap!! =p

The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

this is honestly one of the most painful locks to be in, believe me.

My biggest strength is my strength because I'm strong. That's my biggest strength.

Nice! I like the butterfly guard setup for this too. You drag an arm across, sit up, then roll back and lift them with your legs them like you were going for an elevator. Once elevated release the hook on the side that you have the arm of and extend the other leg up. (If you have his right arm, release your left hook.) Keep pushing the arm across that you dragged as they fall, and they will basically fall on top of you in position 4 or 5. The leg you left "hooked" will still be in between their legs so you can lock it up.

A friend did it to me and obviously when you give up your back put a hand up to guard your throat, if you see that sink in then turn into then pushing your elbow to the floor otherwise your gunna hurt like a bitch

This is a wrestling move called the "Guillotine". Eddie Bravo who used to wrestle back in High School developed this into his BJJ game and thus, we have the "Twister". This is the same exact thing except, look at the free leg on these photos. Eddie Bravo applies a lockdown on the legs therefore makes very hard escape. This way shown, you can free up the legs by using the other free leg. Eddie's "Lockdown" is key for this solid move.

Eddie popularized a move that already exists and he was the first to use it in BJJ.

Nice move but this tech needs a solid lockdown to complete immobilize the opponent. Smile

I gave this article a 3 for the first couple pictures being very poor (not really showing the detail necessary to understand the technique).

I would like to see some escapes for the Twister, if anyone is willing to share their knowledge.

The "Twister" sets you up for four submissions from it's set-in position.

Difficult to escape unless you're supper flexible. It can be done though.

love the feedback guys, remember to submit you variations to the database too!

I like this one better

Never seek defeat, but welcome it.

My uncle was just talking about this move, LOL.

You're not drunk if you can lie on the ground without holding on.

hmm...i've never been "twisted"...i'm curious... how does it feel? where does it hurt?

Remember Remember the 5th of Smarch...

Your head, ribs, and in some cases your knee.

just an update, I now use the "lockdown" whenever I apply the technique and have been for a while now!

Iv'e stuck many guys with this in wrestling, and tapped alot of jj guys with this too, its alot easier if they reach back, because u eliminate quite afew of the steps,i force them to, by just baithing with the half then switching to the final grip and slamming it back, very effective move.
