Takedown to Kneebar Variation

Here is a kneebar variation that is a nice trick from the half mount position. You can get to this position from many different options, but for this example I used an inside trip.

  • Step 1
  • Thanks to lockflow member, Uncle V (Vern) for helping with this technique. I start with a right underhook and left wrist control
  • Step 2
  • Using either a pushing or pulling motion, I get Vern to step forward with his right leg
  • Step 3
  • I pass Vern's right arm in front of his body
  • Step 4
  • Changing levels, I shoot my right leg in between Vern's legs and hook my leg around Vern's right calf
  • Step 5
  • Pulling my right leg back, and driving my hips against Vern's right leg forces him to the mat.
  • Another angle
  • Another angle of the position we landed in, notice how my right leg is still hooked under Vern's right leg.
  • Step 6
  • I put my left foot under my right leg, so that my legs are locked and im keeping tension on Vern's knee. It's important that my hips are on Vern's knee.
  • Step 7
  • To finish the kneebar, I keep my legs tight and sag my hips down as low as possible.

I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE!!!

once i was shown it i kept practicing it almost nonstop, getting your leg in position is sometimes hard, but if your on top, you can pretty much hold his leg in a 1/2 guard from top and slide up or down slowly to get the proper leverage on his leg

This has been one of my favorite moves you have shown so far. I've been close before with that reverse knee bar but never been able to finish. The details in this video are very helpful.

Also, any takedowns from the over under 50/50 position are money!

This is a great technique. I like it for the fact that even if you miss the sub, you're still in great control.
Thanks for posting Chaz

Nice technique. Like you said there are many variations of this technique. I have been using a drop lead knee penetration step with back trip to get this submission. I hadn't even thought about trying it with an inside trip. Thanks a lot. I'm going to work on this one.
