Here Michael shows us how to Take the Back from Open Guard

  • Step 1
  • Michael begins from a basic open guard position.
  • Step 2
  • When the opponent's right foot becomes accessible, Michael "cups" the heel with his left hand while hooking his left foot around the back of the knee. NOTE: Michael must position his hips as close to the opponent's foot as possible.
  • Step 3
  • Michael straightens his left leg and hooks his foot against the back of his opponent's right knee.
  • Step 4
  • Pulling his opponent forward with his right hand, Michael kicks outward with his right foot...
  • Step 5
  • ...sweeping his opponent to the floor while taking his back.
  • Step 6
  • Michael then puts his "hooks" in for control and applies a choke.

He says: Where's the opponent??!
U say: (Applying the choke/strangle)
His reply: (No reply...i just passed out)

The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

Nice one. Although I think you might have to REALLY practice the timing and balance to pull it off. I could see someone bigger or stronger with a good base muscling out of it.

It might be a good idea to wear a cup when you're learning this one. I remember taking someone's back from standing in training but had to tap out as his hip got me as we went to the ground.

ouch.

My biggest strength is my strength because I'm strong. That's my biggest strength.

Very slick variation off the De La Riva sweep. This a bragging rights type of move, not really one I would use in a serious situation.

Always see video clips with this move but never in a way where I could practice it. Thanks.

typically this would be kinda hard to actually execute but with much practice it could be possible to learn to execute very well, but im gonna have to agree with the other guys and say that it is more of a fancy bragging rights move than a serious situation move.

Ill give it a try.

Snap or tap your choice!

De La Riva jiu- jitsue has great stuff like this.

"Tap snap or nap." -The submission fighters moddo and threat, but most of all its our way of life.

I got a chance to try this out last night on an Army Lt. and it worked perfectly...thank you!

This one works really well with the gi.
The guy can grab his opponents belt with his free hand (left) in steps 3/4, and the wrist grip used up to step 4 would be a sleeve grip. And yes...it is pretty slick!

I know this technique was posted a while ago, but can you guys post some more moves like this. Go or No-Gi.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks

Who will go for us, who shall I send. Then I said, "Here am I, send me!"
