toe-hold counter to a toe-hold
I often say that the best counter to leg locks is leg locks. People don't like to hear this, because they like the idea of being able to defend against something they know nothing about (like traditional martial arts guys who think that eye gouging will stop a double leg takedown.)
I constantly hear from people that to "just spin" or "pull your leg away" will stop leg locks.
Well, I recently went to a no-gi tournament and caught every competitor who tried to spin or pull away, but the one who finally stopped me (at the finals of the absolute weight division) was the one who also had a strong knowledge of leg locks.
so here is the technique he caught me with, as taught during a class at remix dojo. this technique is the same from the top of half guard as it is from the bottom. the in-class demonstration is from the bottom, but in competition the guy who did it to me was on top. enjoy!

Thanks for the vid, we also have this as a counter to the forward spin knee bar attack from 1/2 mount!
good stuff!
Thanks Reilly
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"
Thanks. You always come out with fresh stuff.
You Sambo Guys are awesome! very fluid and tricky with the leg attacks... hats off for sure.

Reilly, It's getting to the point where I get unhealthily excited when you post something new. I think I need help.
It's your fault though. The techniques are too cool, and too well explained.
hahaha!
thank you... i think.
Gotta be sure not to get caught by that.
Nice! Can't wait to try it out. When I go to catch the foot, will it help to bring my thigh up on that side of my guard to help trap it initially?
It looks like you're bringing your leg up in the photo of "the catch", but I couldn't tell if it would matter or not.

Good lesson Reilly!
