Top Side Wrist Lock

The Top Side Wrist Lock is is a great attack on your opponent's wrist. It is seen more in Catch-Wrestling circles, as many BJJ practitioners like to go for the Key Lock in this position.

  • Step 1
  • I have Caleb in the "Judo" position, Caleb pushes my chest in an effort to make space to shrimp.
  • Step 2
  • I snake my right hand through Caleb's right wrist and lock my fingers around his wrist.
  • Step 3
  • Using my body weight, I drive my chest to the mat. My left hand slides under Caleb's right elbow.
  • Step 4
  • I grab my own right wrist with my left hand.
  • Step 5
  • Switching my hips for more leverage, I pull Caleb's arm down towards his right hip as I rotate his hand and wrist down and outward, turning his thumb away from his body.
  • Close-Up
  • A close up view of the wrist lock

It looks exactly like a key lock.

It is a wrist lock, like a chicken wing. the pressure is on the wrist and not the shoulder/elbow

Oh..chicken wing. Those are no fun.

I like it cause the move is realistic and feel you could end up here. Could make for quick finish. Wonder if you could take someone down into this position?

Chaz what style would you say this best represents? JJ?

Like I said in the article. it's more of a catch wrestling move

Is it possible to perform a keylock, then rotate my right hand around their wrist to this wrist lock? I hadn't seen this one before, looks yum.

"ArmBar!"

What if you did it with their head in there (arm under their head). Catch their arm with one hand, hold it with the other hand for a second while you work your other hand around and lock it up.

It's pretty hard to get this hold with the head, if you seperate the arm and head from eachother you can go into what we call a 'V-1' lock, i'll add that one later

This submission is an nifty little one. It's one of those ones I don't typically like to use... I feel cheap when I do it. But in tournament I definitely would rip that wrist. It's fairly easy to get too if you can get into the position. But Id rather go for the V1, its a lot nicer and they both make your opponents arm muscles next to worthless to them because of the way you are turning the wrist. I just can say, " It's sweet"

its catch wrestling and i am glad that i learned it

nothin more of an americana lock

fabinho

more than that..its not just an elbow lock but wrist too.. Wink double the pain

The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.
