The closed guard is the most famous version of the guard positions. Normally used to hold an opponent down, buy time, or transition to a submission attempt or different version of the guard position. This position was made famous by Royce Gracie's early UFC fights.

Side Control Both Arms In

In this variation of side control, both arms are on the inside of your opponent's body. It is a great position to prevent your opponent from shrimping.

Side Control aka Cross Body Mount

The side control positon is favored by many grapplers. It can be much easier for some people to hold side control rather than the mount position because of the cross body positioning.

Low Mount With Grapevines
