Karo Parisyan "Judo for Mixed Martial Arts"

I always get excited when I get my hands on a Victory Belt publication. I have yet to be disappointed with one of their books and Karo Parisyan's Judo for MMA is another top notch, encyclopedia of techniques that will elevate your game to the next level.

There is a great introduction, where Karo talks about his life and his road to where he is today, I found it interesting that Karo hated judo when he first started - it was his father that forced him into a heavy training regime.

The techniques in this book are broken down into 4 Main sections
1. Control Positions & transitions
2. Striking Tactics
3. Throwing Techniques
4. Grappling Techniques

Each section is further broken down into mini sections- with the bulk of the techniques expectantly on Throwing and Grappling Techniques.

The Control portion of the book covers wrist control, tie-ups and different entries into these positions and includes a couple of transitions.

The striking section covers the use of strikes to lead into a control positions or leaving a control position into a strike. It's nice to see that Karo doesn't try to teach kickboxing techniques here, the strikes are taught from his particular style of fighting, Heck there is even a backfist in there!

I really liked the Throwing Techniques section. As per usual Victory Belt style the techniques are broken down well, shown from various angles in large, full color pictures. There are some nice counters that I cant wait to try on some of my guys in the gym!

In the grappling section I was excited to see several variations on techniques I haven't seen before. I must admit that I had seen Gene Lebell show a "Cobra Choke" in one of his books awhile ago and never quite figured it out. Karo had this choke in the book, and now I understand it!

Here is a video of the technique:

Karo's book is another hit! make sure you pick up your copy! The suggested retail is 34.95.

Wicked!!! I'm really lookingforward to it and anything really produced by Victory Belt!

I have done that choke before many times, I always called it a Front No-Gi Choke. I will for sure be picking up that book.

Being attacked is like being asked a question- if you answer right you won't get asked anymore questions.

gret review, thanks! i like the part about striking, and how it teaches the striking is tailored to Karo.

it is an absolute essential for grapplers transitioning into mma even if u kno the moves in da book it is great

It's all a puzzle, isn't it, Joseph? Like a game of chess, perhaps. The pieces move, apparently aimlessly, but always towards one single objective: to kill the king. But who is the king in this game, Joseph? That is the question you must ask yourself.

Great review

Knowing is half the battle

Having Judo in MMA is as necessary as having a good ground game, the takedowns complement the Jiu-Jutsu, and the clinch takedowns throw off the guy who thinks he can escape your good hands by grabbing you. But, that's just my opinion. Ha ha.
