Pat Miletich DVDs
Knowing that my standup skills were lacking, I decided to give Pat Miletich's "Learn to Fight and Win" instructional series a try. I was expecting a few good pointers which would help me better my game. Well, I was wrong...... It was better than I had expected.
When I started watching the standup portion of this 6 dvd set, I was amazed at how much knowledge I was missing. Later, I decided to take a look at some of the ground stuff.
I couldn't believe some of the ground techniques I was seeing. Here is a list of the volumes:
Vol. 1 - Standup Fighting
This dvd teaches the basic footwork of boxing and Muay Thai, along with an introduction to the many uses of the jab, and the basic punch combinations.
As I said before, my standup game was nowhere near the best, and this dvd helped me to gain a bit a confidence on my feet.
Vol. 2 - Make Them Pay for Missing
With this dvd, you will learn the proper ways of capitalizing on your opponents' mistakes. Miletich shows you how to make them miss their shots in order to counter punches with punches, kicks with kicks, and other great combination counters.
Before watching this dvd, the only way I could parry a punch was with my nose! As with the first dvd, I began gaining more confidence, and became less afraid of getting hit.
Vol. 3 - Thai Pad Combinations
This dvd is helpful if you are new to Thai Pads and aren't sure how to use them in order to get the best training experience from them. Contains over 15 drills.
As long as you have a training partner, you will never run out of striking drills.
Vol. 4 - Submission Escapes
Learn how to defend and escape numerous armbars, keylocks and more from many different set-ups.
This dvd blew me away. I'll bet you've never seen most of these escapes. I have used a few of these already while sparring, and nobody sees them coming. After watching this dvd, you might find yourself trying to get caught in a submission just so you can use a couple of these!
Vol. 5 - Gain Positions on the Ground
Learn the best-kept secrets to passing the guard, half-guard, butterfly guard, gaining the mount, taking someone's back, and more!
This is easily my favorite of the 6 dvd's! Many of these passes are so simple, but nobody knows them. This dvd really brings out Miletich's creativeness. I highly recommend this dvd.
Vol. 6 - The Fight Clinic
This is a compilation of different techniques from the series. Also includes commentary by Pat Miletich, an interview, and additional training tips.
This is probably the least valuable of the set, but interesting nonetheless. You get to hear Pat's take on different aspects of the fight game.
Overall, I would recommend this complete set to anyone who is not familiar with the basic standup game, but more experienced guys may also be able to pull some useful things from it. The standup combined with the ground techniques in this series, would lead me to believe that everybody, regardless of experience level, could find something beneficial to their fight game.
The entire set can be purchased for about $150.00 at www.centuryfitness.com

(:
Thanks for the review man. Sounds like this DVD set is fairly complete and very useful. I just don't know if I should get this one or that one by Bas Routen. Any suggestions guys? PM with them if you have a second.
HATE.
I only watched the Escape submission section.
I have to say that Miletich really put a lot of effort to come up those defenses. Many of them are very easy but nonetheless you have to get it down by drilling it.
But the downside is he did not cover anything on leg and foot.
Glad I saw this cause I was just going to review it my self.
I've got to say, this is the best instructional series I have seen yet. For someone looking to get a good introduction to all the aspects of MMA this vid can't be beat. Pat is the master.
HATE.
