Penn vs. Condit Possible for October

Given the assumed rematch between Jon Fitch and BJ Penn, news of Carlos Condit and BJ Penn agreeing to fight in October comes as a bit of a surprise. Though most of the word surrounding this bout spread via Twitter, Sherdog.com has confirmed with sources close to the fighters that the bout is near official.

Though the UFC has not officially announced the bout, Jon Fitch seems convinced that the bout is going to happen. He has taken to Twitter to express his displeasure with the potential bout and has repeatedly called out Penn, implying that Penn is ducking him by taking the fight with Condit.

The underlying issue seems to be that of fan interest. At one point, I was interested in seeing a rematch between Penn and Fitch, but that was when the sting of their draw was fresh. When Penn and Fitch both pulled out of their scheduled fight due to injury, my interest began to wain. Now, I think I would rather see both Penn and Fitch take on new challenges and meet again sometime down the road.
