Back Heel Kick Feint to Spinning Round House
This is a fun technique that has worked well for Remix fighter Mike Chesbro. I had him demonstrate it for this article and have also posted two examples of him doing it in competition. This may or may not be a practical move depending on the rules of the fight, but he has pulled it off in both kyokushin and kickboxing. The reason why this works is because it capitalizes on your opponents instinct to back up when you start the spinning back heel kick. that puts him at the perfect distance for the spinning round house and his ribs are usually open because his hands go up when you start the back heel kick feint.
You don't need to tell me how "risky" or "low percentage" you think this is... i know. But i thought some of you would get a kick out of it. bwahahaha!

Pretty sweet feint...I'd probably fall for it and get whacked with that roundhouse lol

pretty flashy.
Franklin Roosevelt once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Well guess what, i am fear.
nice, love seeing the vids of the technique in action!
Thanks Reilly!
So what happened to the first fighter in the clip that got hit with this in competition? did he go down? Cuz it looked like it connected spot on.

no he didn't drop unfortunately. mike didn't quite have as much power on it as he could have. but it was a good kick none the less. =)
Tried this in class last night. Didn't catch it clean, but there's always tonight.
another great variant of this kick is the 360 round, where you are actually airborne through most of the kick. I am sure Chaz could demonstrate this one for us...
if you are having trouble with this kick, try throwing spinning back heel kicks a lot in sparring so people are accustomed to backing away from them, then change it up. its hard to fake someone out if they don't know what your faking.
Thanks Reilly... great move! This one will definetly keep your opponents guessing so long as they know what a back heel kick is (or what one feels like)
is this the same as a tae kwon do 360 tornado kick?
that is awesome. deff trying it out.
Great move. I taught this to some of the kids I teach.
nice! i like the round house followed by a spinning back kick.
天下無難事,只怕有心人
might work on some green people once or twice...try doing it arial instead and mix it up to leg/body/head/neck. Still a risky technique one of those things you pull out of your arse every once in a while just to mix things up. I used to play with it a lot my first six months of muay thai but wouldn't reccomend doing it in a kyokushin tournament, that is if you're fighting under knockdown rules, not with gear on.

Pretty interesting. It might be pretty practical in the octagonif used right.

I usually finish that move by falling on my ass.
