Basic Knee Strikes from the Tie-up
Nothing fancy here, just some basic knee strikes that every MMA fighter should know from the tie up position.
Thanks to Alex "Scrappy-Doo" Zuniga for demonstrating.
Alex is 3-0 in MMA and 3-0 in Kickboxing as of this writing.

The tie-up
-
low Knee
-
Mid- Knee
-
High Knee
Alex has the Tie up, his left hand is on Eddie's right arm and his right arm on the back of Eddie's head
Using his right knee, Alex strikes the inside of Eddie's right leg as he thrusts his hips forward for more power
Pushing his hips forward, Alex thrusts his knee into Eddie's mid-section
Pulling Eddie's head down, Alex raises his knee straight up as he lifts his weight upward by getting up on the ball of his left foot

The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

high knee to flying armbar anyone..????
It is not necessary to give everything all the time.
Instead we must realise the critical moments and give it all then.
nice drill.
Do I wanna fight?
Hell yeah I wanna fight!
kneekneeknee!
Lamest but also awesomest call name ever.... "The knight who says KNEE" for like, Silva or a thai guy....
Pun hell.
So the rubber didn't go as planned. Oh well, it's only $30.
I love the knees!!!
If you've been in one battle no matter what the out come of that battle you need not fear a hundred battles....

GREAT KNEES MAKE GREAT MEN!!
Can't go wrong when sticking to the basics
Years of useless knowledge finally being utilized.
Interesting difference in Bas Rutten's instructions - he doesn't get on his toes when doing a knee - his view is that going up on your toes reduces the power - not saying that you are wrong and he is right - just a different variation to try to see which suits you.
Great basic knee striking technique!
Bas Rutten was one of the first guys i ever saw in MMA. MAtter of fact it was the UFC and he one by knockout. HE demonstrated good knee work, but i'm only 5'7" tall so if i am trying to knee anyone (ha, unlikely!) i would almost have to go up on my toes, just for the reach to the stomach.
The Dutch dont raise on their toes much, relying on body weight and muscle to lend strength to strikes. The Thai fighters, needing to get as much science out of each strike as they can, to compensate for size, raise up and thrust the hips to the point of pivoting on the standing foot. Depends on your fighting style, and if you first focus is power or technique.
King in the ring and a killer on the mic.
oya i almost forgot..how about lateral knee..???
The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

Good technique. I'm a beginner in Muay Thai, a well placed knee is better than a body strike anyday.
Yea, Bas says standing on your toes lessens the distance between the knee and the target, therefore reducing the power, but he only says this for the knees to the body. He does say to come up to the toes for the knee to the face.
