Parrying the Jab

One of the basic punch defenses, the parry is must know technique for any fighter. Here - Parrying the jab is shown

  • Step 1
  • Here, Eddie is in the fighting position
  • Step 2
  • Assuming your fighting an orthodox fighter, Eddie shows the hand position for the parry. It is a quick slapping motion timed and executed at the moment before the jab hits the face. Notice that Eddie's hand does not drop below his chin. for extra time, Eddie could also step back with his right foot when parrying.
  • Step 1
  • Now we'll do the same technique against a partner. I square off with Eddie
  • Step 2
  • Eddie uses his right hand to parry my jab away from his chin
  • Step 1
  • Now a direct view - I am looking at Eddie
  • Step 2
  • Eddie "slaps" away my hand, before it reaches it's target.

He's smirking because he is thinking, "Ha! You were the master, now I have parried your punch and you call me sensei!" Or something like that.

On second thought maybe he was going to sneeze.

Also, this can be done sideways with the forearm.

Well, this is a good one to know. God help any fighter who doesn't know how to do this.

I like the catch, jab counter as my primary tech

I pray, do yoga, meditate and still want to smack people
