Here is a nice simple combo used to set up a elbow attack follow up. As with all set up techniques you will need to see how your opponent reacts to an attack to use a follow up.
For example, if my opponent runs to his/her left every time I throw a left hook, I might try a right kick or right hook punch follow up, I probally wouldn't try a thrust kick. So as with any technique practice and timing are very important.
Here is a video of Nate and I practicing this combo back & forth in training. the step by step is below:
-
Step 1
-
Step 2
-
Step 3
-
Step 4
-
Step 5
Nate and I square off
I step in with my left foot and throw a quick jap into Nate's face. Nate reacts by covering up
I follow up with by dropping my right knee and throwing a right hand... I notice that Nate is still covering up.
Keeping my left arm in the North/South position, I step forward with my left leg and thrust my forearm inbetween Nate's guard
I point my right elbow towards the ceiling and drop the top of my elbow straight down - aiming for upper eyebrow area

Not to pick on Nate - but, if you look at the footwork - you will notice that I have a double left step in the combo, this is very important when trying to close the distance for elbows. Nate doesn't step in with the elbows, with will make it difficult to get close enough.
Yep Chazzy.... his left foot is stuck in the mud!!!
Step on the odd numbers to close the distance. 1,3,5, etc!!!
nice combo!!!
