Closing the gap on an opponent to use a knee strike can be difficult if not done correctly. Just walking up and grabbing a guy can get you punched in the nose.
Here is a video of one possible set up with the step by step broken down below:

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 7
I square up with my partner Andy
I step in with my lead foot and deliver a Jab to Andy
Twisting my rear foot, I throw a right hook punch towards Andy's jaw. I am aiming my punch around Andy's lead guard. (Andy's guard is open wider than normal for the purpose of this photo)
I punch through Andy's guard and drop my right arm down in a counter clockwise motion
I continue to roll my right arm until I claim the underhook, at the same time - I step forward with my right foot to the outside of Andy's lead leg
I reach over with my left arm and hook the back of Andy's neck
Here is an alternate view of Step 6
From here, I deliver a left knee to the body or head!

very cool thanks for sharing
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"
right in the kissa!
Simple and effective!
Thank you Jesus for Martial arts!
Kind of "same side" knees we do in Sabaki tournaments. Can also pull down while you step to encircle your opponent into a semi-soccer kick..ala "sabaki method".
Keep training and enjoy what you do.
thats got good flow!!!
If you've been in one battle no matter what the out come of that battle you need not fear a hundred battles....
coach chaz, what's ur option if he squares off or counter punch with the right hand after step 5? thx
The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

Madmike - you can simply take your own left hand and block the shoulder or bicep if you feel the punch coming.
Knees are so much fun! Thanks Chaz, new one to try in practice.
wow that looks like it would be pritty easy to set up
I tried that yesterday, it flows well....
