Rear Leg Kick
A staple technique for all stand-up fighter's, the rear leg kick can be a very damaging move. The kick is done with the shin instead of the foot.

Undefeated amatuer fighters Sally and Yancy square off
Sally steps with her left foot out to the left staying on the ball of her foot
Shifting her weight to her left, Sally swings her right leg towards Yancy's thigh, making contact with her shin.(Notice how Her knee is in front of her target) Sally keeps her leg bent but stiff- similar to the shape of a boomerang as she drives her hips through Yancy's leg at the moment of impact.
Another angle of the kick. There are a few differnt ways that you can hold your hands. In this example Sally swings her right hand to help generate more power as she tucks her chin and protects her face with her left hand.

Gotta love the low kick! My personal favorite strike!
Sally's technique looks good. A great kickboxer once told me to becareful of kicking "Cold", this means to not set your kick up with a punch, feint or angle. Your Opponent is much more likely to check or counter a cold kick than a well set up one. - great job!

I love low kicks too! Seeing how any times i have ever been injured from a kick its from kicking someone high
I definitely love the low ones!

I like throwing this immediately following a right head punch. Ramon Dekkers is the king of this technique. Nails you with the right hand and a millisecond after your knee explodes in pain. Only thing to worry about when she steps to her left is walking into a right hand herself. The leg kicks can do awsome damage.
Both hands up! As the kick comes around, your rear hand becomes your lead, and it should be up, or your chin is exposed from the front. Some fighters will eat the leg kick, shuffle in and counter with a cross when they see the chin exposed.
Yeah, drop your hand that's smart, NOT!
besides what happens if your kick is too weak I know guys that can take several good kicks to the quadriceps and then take you down in the middle of your kicking motion.
I totally think that she is to exposed at this point however it is a rock solid technique if it is done right.
Keep Practicing!
Style doesn't matter, KNOWLEDGE & SKILL matter ! ! !
this is def the kick that everyone should learn
and then you can twerk it and get real good power shots out of it

I've heard that doing this kick in sort of a downward motion produces more power, and I've seen people do it that way. Is it better that way?

But only one is there who knows
and he's the man who fights the bull.
Wow, apparently ninjastick is a better kickboxer than Sally...
I think this is a great kick, and i believe the explosiveness of this kick is going to catch them off gaurd. Two hands might be better than one, but you can defend your face from punches with one hand... Ever heard of the Stonewall Defense?
