The high kick /punch is a great combo to suprise a fighter with when they have shown you that they know how to block the high kick.

here is a video of Sally drilling this technique on the pads with the step by step explained below:

  • Step 1
  • Sally and Eddie square off
  • Step 2
  • Sally throws the high kick, and Eddie blocks it
  • Step 3
  • as Sally's leg comes back, she quickly twists her hip's and throws a right hand to Eddie's head

I gotta get to the gym where you guys and gals are at!! Look out america here i come!

i know you didnt see that one coming but it wouldnt have mattered cause your chin was high and your hands down away!

Great post. We practice this quite a bit. Great for creating space/resetting and usually it's unexpected.

Nice move. i'll be working this one in.

I hope her right roundhouse can shoot up a lot faster than that, or I'm stealing her shoe as it comes in.

lol!!!

After landing with the right cross, wouldn't your hips be in perfect position to follow up with a left hook combo?

after you land you foot it would be better.

Nice job Sally Laughing out loud like this combo

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"

I like, I like.

I tried this yesterday in training and it is not as easy as it may appear. Timing is critical in the successful execution of this technique.

Great technique once you get it down!

Question: why a right cross and not a left jab?

Being attacked is like being asked a question- if you answer right you won't get asked anymore questions.

nice technique

in most cases the right cross is much more powerful then the jab, and also a same side attack can throw off your opponents rhythm sometimes
bas rutten teaches this combo too

nice work

nice job Sally. To answer the question; why a right cross and not a jab...because due to the placement of the hips as you throw the kick, your cross is being chambered for a powerful hit. If you threw the jab, the hips are off and you would only be throwing the jab with you arm power.

I agree with the question of why not the left jab, but I guess that would prove why it could catch your opponent off guard. Nice work!

We use this with a low inner-thigh kick as well, great combination, sometimes lead off with the jab/kick/cross.

I don't have to win every time, it doesn't bother me in the slightest to get tapped. So I'm able to learn the ins and outs without my ego getting in the way. - Eu
