Spinning Elbow Counter to Basic Single Leg Defense

This is a nifty little trick you can use when someone starts stuffing your head down off a single leg takedown.

I like this one especially because it demonstrates our approach to MMA techniques which is to blend striking with grappling rather than treat them as two separate entities.

  • Elbow Counter
  • Jake is in on a single leg
  • Elbow 2
  • Jake's opponent pushes on his head to defend the single leg
  • Step 3
  • Jake quickly release his grip and spins hi inside elbow up to the face of his opponent

if you miss, or its not a KO is this an easy set up to get caught in a crucifix?

I like it.

I see what u mean thai...they could bait u for the crucifix...but most opponent's won't bait for such an unorthodox move unless they have seen u do it in another fight or pull it off on them earlier in the match. Also, I think u might be able to let go of the leg, if u feel the opponent's weight drop when he/she goes to wrap the non-striking arm with his/her balancing leg. Overall, I think it's a pretty slick move though.

How would they crucifix you? The right arm is on the outside when you're grabbing the single, not between the legs. That said, I don't see anyone getting knocked out by this, but still a cool trick.

I'm not a black belt, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

as many have pointed out... crucifix and long lanky wirey guys (like myself) love the crucifix. this would catch many off guard tho

It's all a puzzle, isn't it, Joseph? Like a game of chess, perhaps. The pieces move, apparently aimlessly, but always towards one single objective: to kill the king. But who is the king in this game, Joseph? That is the question you must ask yourself.

kool move
