Thai Clinch to Head Kick
This is a nice little set up that lines up the head kick quite nicely. One of my fighters used to use this move with some great success. Here is a video of Pro MMA fighter Buck Bisbey (17-2 and too many belts to mention), and myself drilling this move:
-
Step 1
-
Step 3
-
Step 2
-
Step 4
-
Step 5
"The Slam" has me in the Thai Clinch
Buck drives a knee into my
faceNot content with one knee, Buck slams another knee into my head and lands with his leg behind him
Buck swims his right hand over my head so that both of his hands are on the side of my head opposite the kick
Keeping his right hand on my head - he pulls my head into his right kick

We do this drill a lot (works wells and is a good technique). You can obviously alter/drop this to land on the abdomen and ribs as a variation if his hands are still up...
Pain- it may be the best reminder that you are still alive
hey, buck went to my high school. good ol' sedro-woolley.

Nice SCRAP shirt!
Really like this one!
glad you like the shirt, Ivan gave it to me!
Great drill! Was his hip not turned over on that round kick though?
I don't have to win every time, it doesn't bother me in the slightest to get tapped. So I'm able to learn the ins and outs without my ego getting in the way. - Eu

Watched the video again though and I think the picture was just a 'time of the shot', he seems to turn his hip over throughout the kicks. Great drill, I like this one and I'm going to steal it

Another way to land the kick effectively is after step three (listed as step 2), in place of step 4, Buck would keep the thai clinch. He would swing his right leg behind him, causing him to rotate 90 degrees. As he rotates, Chaz would be pulled off balance, forcing him to step to the side to prevent being thrown on the ground. (Pulling your opponent's head close to your chest while rotating makes the rotation easier).
As soon as Buck's right foot touches the ground behind him, he would immediately let go with his right hand (or both hands if you need more room) & throw the right head kick while Chaz is off balance. I've used this in fights very effectively, and dropped my opponets a few times with it.
Now... what I should have said was... nothing.
We've done that a few times in practice, that clinch/pull is great.
