Here are a few ideas for countering the Jab. These by no means are all the possibilities but hopefully, they present a breadth of techniques that address skill levels across the board.
-
Speed Bag Punch
-
Speed Bag Punch 2
-
Spliting the punch
-
Split punch 2
-
The "True" Right Cross
-
Thai Left Knee 1
-
Thai Knee 2
Brian parries the jap with his right palm
Brian step off at a 45 degree angle with his left foot as he throws a right punch to his opponent
Brian slips his head to the outside of his opponent's jab as he parries with his right hand
While performing the slip/parry motion, Brian takes a step in with his left foot and Jabs at his opponent
Brian throws a right cross straight down the pike as a counter
As the jab comes, Brian steps out with his right leg at a angle as he parries with the right forearm and reaches toward his opponents head with the left hand
Brian pulls the head of his opponent as he delivers a knee to the body/liver of his opponent

these are fantastic.
thanks a bunch.
Thanks Brian, Good Stuff.
Again, thanks to Chaz for putting this up for me. Also thanks you guys for the kind remarks. I'll confess, I don't mind having an ego stroke.
One note, on Thai Knee 2. The knee will actually be more towards the solar plexus, xiphoid process, rib cage or spleen as opposed to the liver. This is due to the angle of attack. You should be slightly to your opponent's left which makes it a bit of a stretch to access the liver unless you're a taller fighter.
The curve knee to the liver worked because the angle of attack was from standing directly in front of your opponent, which is possible because of the suppressive fire (the Cross Hook) which will hopefully cause your opponent to cover up. If it doesn't then don't follow up with the knee. If he evades or counters your Cross Hook, get the Hell out of Dodge.
This is great stuff Brian, really useful. Thanks! Especially like the 'hitting back' thought process, will definitely keep you more proactive in your attacks rather than relying on countering. Thanks again!

Great counters.
Great stuff but I'm a southpaw. Does anyone know of any good combinations that can be thrown at a southpaw stance? I can't find that much on it.
Snap or tap your choice!
Thanks. Awesome counters, gonna try em 2morrow.
Who's the girl back there? Have we met, and if not; why not?

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"
