About Me

I'm Jason Mallory born and raised in Ann Arbor Michigan,
Go Blue ! I am the founder of No-Gi-Grappling.com which is a site dedicated to submission grappling where you can contribute in a number of ways to what gets published.

I started Wrestling and Taekwondo when I was thirteen years old, over 28 years ago. My Collegiate Wrestling coach was James Bryant (R.I.P.) who was a US Olympic team member in 1980 ( the year the US boycotted the Games ) and my Greco Roman Wrestling coach was the legendary Ernie Gillum. My first regular season wrestling varsity with Mr. Bryant I was 30-0.

In 1990 I won a silver medal at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in
Tae Kwon Do. I competed in the black belt division at the National Championships, won a bronze medal and was looking forward to a chance to qualify for the U.S. National team. I received my black belt in TKD from my coach, two-time Olympian (88 & 92) and former U.S. head coach,
Han Won Lee.

After I moved to Los Angeles I became friends with this kid Aaron Briley who personally trained with Rickson Gracie for 3 or 4 years back in the mid 90's. Aaron became a Pan Am champion while training with Jean Jacques Machado. He got me into submission grappling and shared many Gracie Jiu Jitsu principles.

I started training Jiu Jitsu with Maricio Acosta who is a Rickson Gracie black belt. In 2001 I shared 1st place at the Grappling Games in Las Vegas with a teammate while I trained with Rey Diogo. I received my blue belt from Pan Am Champion Renato Magno of Street Sports Jiu Jitsu and in 2007 Eddie Bravo gave me my purple after a year training at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu HQ.

In May of '08 I competed in the Hungarian Submission Wrestling Championships hosted by Gracie Barra even though I needed surgery on both knees going into the competition. In the second round fight I beat a two-time Hungarian MMA champion whose base was BJJ. I blew my left knee out completely in the third fight on the shot in and that is how the cookie crumbles.

While I lived in L.A. I boxed a few months at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. I also did some LeMaCo knife fighting with Felix Valencia formerly of Cold Steel who was an undefeated full contact stick fighting champion at the time.

I live in Europe now with my wife Ivette. While here in Hungary I train regularly with the City of Kaposvar Judo Team and teach No-Gi Grappling at the Nukrob Gym with amateur European Thai Box Champion Gabor Hortobagyi and in the past with Pro MMA fighter Patrik Bogyo who was the amateur Hungarian MMA champion for his weight class.
