Waldomiro Perez interview
Waldomiro Perez Jr talks to the Fighting Photographer
Once again at the Wolfslair, Mr Perez Jr took time out of his busy schedule with Rampage Jackson, to answer a few questions; here’s what he had to say………..
What’s your role with Quinton?
I have known him five or six years now, as I am a sports journalist myself and have interviewed him many times and he’s a real funny guy, real easy to interview; when he lost to Shogun, he came to my classes and when he fought Yokoi he asked me to be his corner man and since then we have been working together for about three years.
Where do you teach?
Huntington Beach at the Ultimate Training Centre, in LA and before that at Team Punishment with Tito Ortiz. I still teach a little for the Team Punishment guys, but Jackson takes up most of my time now. I have my own academies in Brazil I have quite a few out there, but here in LA I work out of the training centre for the owners.
What rank belt are you now?
Fifth degree black belt under Marcelo Behring
Is this your first time in the UK?
Yes, I have been here a few times before, as a surfer and a journalist and have been here for a seminar a few years ago in Switzerland and stopped here on the way back home.
Who do you work for in Brazil?
It’s with a show called Pass the guard and collaborate with Tatame magazine and MMA WL and Grapple TV.com.
How do you see the fight with Quinton?
He’s been training well and is super confident, he is up against a very good experienced fighter but I think it will be Quinton’s night in London.
What do you think of Mike?
Very impressed with him, as I’d only seen him on the TV; when he came out to train with us I was impressed with his takedowns and stand up, his jiu jitsu is very good and that’s down to his instructor Mario, who I believe is the best instructor in Europe.
Very positive for both fighters?
Yes, very, I am pleased to get the chance to come here to train with some very good guys like Mario, Chocolate and Tom and all the students, it’s a great gym, I am very impressed.
Thanks for your time, nice to speak to you today
My pleasure Carl
